Video Company THROWS OUT old cameras & professional video equipment. Where could they donate the stuff to!?!?!?
OK, I can't give the company name but a company located in Chicago, IL that films sporting events and concerts and stuff like that yet are not affiliated with any television studio is always getting in new equipment as the tech advances.
They have some video cameras, VERY expensive lenses, and tons and tons of cables that they just, literally, toss in the trash when they are not needed any more...
One of the engineers has brought up putting them out in eBay but the company decided that it was too time consuming to do that so they just chuck them in the bin.
The stuff is old... But still, the 'old' stuff is HI8 and MiniDV so it is still a viable format. I was able to borrow a Sony HandiCam for a project and they treated it as if it was just a disposable camera!
Are there any organizations that would take this stuff?
Schools? Do you think that schools would take it for their tech courses?
PLEASE... I'm begging you for recommendations because they are THROWING OUT thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars worth of equipment in to a big dumpster and my father won't let me go over there and dumpster dive to retrieve this stuff!!
I've even seen computers, (I don't know how much hardware they took out before chucking it but I'm thinking they might have just wiped the hard drive and tossed it whole) some old'ish office furniture, even an exercise machine... (I can't remember what it was. An exercise bike or something like that)
I was thinking about Freecycle but then they would have to arrange for pick up and they want to keep security tight... So that may not be an acceptable solution...
Sigh... I'm at a loss! I am a "Waste Not - Want Not" person that is pained to know that so much valuable equipment is just going to a land fill...
It is a waste that is a treasure trove to anyone I can contact to arrange for pick up!!
Thank you very much for ANY advice you can offer...

How to choose a best security cam for my Office?
My Technology channel office has 6 to 8 working employees working 24 hours a day, I am realted to Network and Wan equipment selling department and please tell me how can I store video on my computer but I dont have time to see all the stored security cam videos daily so what shall i do, appoint a scurity man for it or else
Prehaps it might be worth it to have an offsite company do the monitoring. It all depends on what they are monitoring for?
Are you concerned about people sleeping at work, not working, leaving early? This could be easily checked by an outside company.
Are you concerned about hardware theft? Pretty obvious if someone tries to walk off with a monitor?
Or do you really need to watch what people are doing on a key by key level?
You can build a "DVR" basically a security camera tivo, that could record up to 4, 8, 16 cameras constantly with enough storage for a few days of time lapse video. You can also build it to capture just people entering and leaving the space or use key badges to get in and out of the office. This would tell you how long people are actually there.
If you want a simple thing, go buy a linksys network based web cam. Then you can monitor from your office, home etc. They will never know who is watching. Also could setup a computer to record the video.

Where can I find a surv. video multiplexer?
I have a security surveillance video tape that needs a multiplexer to view. I need someone with the equipment so I can view the video. Even better would be if the video could be converted to CD or DVD. Somewhere around Toronto would be ideal but not necessary.

what can you do to protect your camera equipment from theft in barcelona?
I have talked to many people who have visited barcelona and loved it. However, they all have told me stories about having had purses and camera equipment stolen. I usually carry two cameras, several lenses and a video camera wherever I travel. I am wondering whether I need to find camera bags with locks and other security devices. Do you have any experiences to share or advice to give? thanks, jim
Yep unfortunately I had my bag snatched from around my neck in Barcelona too.
If you want to carry all that equipment with you then I would put it in a sturdy ruck sack and wear it on your front instead of on your back so that no-one can slip a hand inside without you seeing. Its gonna be hot though, it always is in Barcelona, so you may not want to carry all your equipment around all day.
If I were you id invest in a bum bag (fanny pack) big enough to hold one camera and strap it to your front where you can see it.
Maybe have just one expedition out with all your equipment just at the end of your holiday, take photos of all the lovely things you saw and then lock the equipment in the safe in your hotel room again.

I need an outdoor security camera to watch my back yard?
I'm looking for something that's less than $150, that will monitor my back yard, ideally something wireless. I would like something that can stream to a computer, so wireless b/g is needed. Also, I would prefer something that was able to take decent images at dusk, because one of the concerns I have are deer eating at my garden. I don't want to have to buy a 24hr VCR, or any other equipment, but streaming to a hard drive is no issue.
If possible I'd like something that was motion activated, so that I don't have to sit through 12 hours of video every time a deer eats something.
Also, any software recommendations for this would be appreciated.
How much will I need to spend?
Those seem like a little bit of overkill. I don't need super high quality footage. Just good enough to see where the deer are coming from, and which way the person who keeps stealing my humane squirrel traps comes from.
Anything at/below the $150 price point (and even higher) is going to have near-nonexistent low-light performance.
Lumenera makes good quality network security cameras, but they are not cheap. Most of their models are for wired ethernet though.
If you’re considering home security, you should take a look at a wireless monitored home security system. More traditional burglar alarm and security systems had to be hard-wired into the home. They were expensive, difficult to install, and hard to repair.
A modern wireless monitored home security system has many advantages.
