I need help with my dual monitor video card/computer?
I installed my 3D Fuzion Graphics card and my setting aren't right. My icons and font are real small and when I try to change the screen resolution it looks distorted and plus my other screens background changes to a smaller size. How can I fix this?
Thank you! You helped a lot!
Try playing around with the Display options:
I assume when you go to the Display options, you have 2 screens and a bunch of options (resolution, bit, etc) on the bottom.
Click on the first screen and click on Identify button to make sure that it shows "1". Do the same with the second screen.
Click on the first screen and change the color to the max that you have - THEN change the resolution to what you prefer.
Click on Advanced button -> Monitor tab, and try changing the refresh rate frequencies - 60 hz, 75 hz, 100 hz, etc.
To change the size of your icons and fonts, go to Display Properties/Appearance, select Theme or select Item of your choice and set its properties.
When you do all this, it should only change the settings on the first screen, the one you had selected all this time. To change the settings for your other screen's background, etc., first click on the second screen when you go to Display Properties, then do the same things you did for the first screen and it should only affect the second screen since you have it selected. Also, try checking/unchecking the "Extend My Windows Desktop onto This Monitor" box on the second screen's options.
let me know how it went, and/or provide further details about your problem.

PC Crashed, blank screen, monitor and video card work...?
PC- HP Pavillion a1440n
Memory- 2 G
Monitor- Samsung 19" Syncmaster 932BW
Graphics Card- ATI VisionTek X1300 512 MB
OS- Dual Xp\Vista home Premium ( have been using Vista only since I upgraded, haven't used XP os in 2 years)
I always keep my pc clean of dust and regulary use Window Washer to keep the system clean.
Sequence of events:
3 months ago... Aquired hijacking virus along with a quarter of the screen size popup ad when surfing and also a virus that replaced every ad banner on every web site with ViMax male enhancement ads.
Tried repeated attempts with Spybot Search and Destroy which always worked for me for this kind of thing for years. It never found anything. Yes I kept it updated.
Tried several other popular freeware similar to spybot with failed attempts. No viruses were ever detected. I knew I had a bada$s virus at this point.
One Microsoft recommended free removal program was from K7 Computing. No luck there either, though I suspected this to be a troublesome program after I removed it from my program files like i did with every other program that didn't work for me. Every so often afterwards, the K7 icon would show up on my desktop or on my Rocket Dock even after I deleted the icon.
2 Months ago:
I began to use software to clean my registry. It worked for its purpoe but never found or deleted my viruses.
1 month ago:
I began to wake up in the morning and the PC would be shut down even though I didn't do it and I didn't have it schedueled to do so. I thought it may have been my 3am automatic updates but quickly didmissed that because there weren't always updates and it would always restart if there were. Now as time progressed, throughout the next few weeks the computer was hesitant to load up when I hit the power button. When this happened it would power off instantly when I touched the power button unlike normally a have to hold it for a few seconds. After a few attempts it would eventually load up.
The fan began to run louder than ever, so I attributed the non-startups as a result of overheating. I removed the heatsink and fan, dusted it back to new and added new silver thermal compound between the heatsink and Intel processor after cleaning the old stuff off. Now it was quiet as the day i bought the PC. No luck with the normal startups though. I had suspected the virus all along.
I finally found a solution to the virus. It was a program called Malwarebytes. It came recommended in forums and it worked! It found several viruses and trojans and removed them all. PC and internet were all back to normal and I was happy as could be...
The next morning after the fix I awoke to see an unfamiliar desktop which looked like a basic desktop when you first install windows. The recycling bin and two program icons which I don't remember where the only thing there besides the basic vista background and the task bar...
In the taskbar a little notice popped up. It said I was logged onto a temporary account as my normal administrator account could not be loaded. I had left the PC on in its normal administrator account the night before. I had done nothing.
So I immediately checked to see if my files were still around and they were through Explorer. Turned off the power and figured on backing everything up when I got back from work. I know I'm an idiot for not doing it in the last 3 months.
Anyways, since that morning my PC has never come back on. I can power it up and sometimes I even hear the windows loading sounds through the speakers but not always. I know the pc recognizes devices because if I hear the loading sounds I can press the logoff button on my wireless keyboard and I hear the sound it makes as it logs off. Now it doesn't always "boot up" but I know when it does because I'll either A;hear the sounds B; unplug the monitor cable from the pc and the monitor recognizes it has lost signal or C; when I hit the power button I have to hold it as opposed to it shutting off immediately as I have described above.
I have tested the monitor with my laptop and it works fine. I have placed my original video card back in the pc and nothing different. So I'm sure the video card is not the problem. I have tested the two memory sticks individually and in different slots with no results. My most recent test was to Map Network Drives and try to access my pc through the laptop to recover the files. It recognizes my pc but says I'm not logged onto the Administraor account. The problem there is the last time I seen anything it said I was was logged onto temp account of some sort and I don't know what it is called if anything at all.
No luck with anything.
So if anybody has a solution as to how I can recover my files before I take it to a specialist, please share your wisdom. Would I have better luck trying to connect to the pc directly with a cable? Or if this has happened to anyone else and knows what the actual issue here is, PLEASE tell me.
Sorry for the sup
Sorry for the super long post, but I wanted to be as thorough as possible. I really don't think I have any more information to give, but if there are any questions, I'll be checking the post regularly.
Thank You,
Drexyl
Two suggestions:
You could look into getting one of these cables.

It gives you a nice split screen to manage moving files between computers.

Build a Bart PE disk

This will give you an OS off the hard drive. You could search for other "offline" boot disks or offline rescue disks that do the same thing that are linux based
I recently installed a video card. Ever since, my monitor screen is all discolored.Like purplish. Whats wrong?
Also, my icons on my desktop and everything are large... and I went to the place where you can change that. but when i went to small icons... it didnt work. This is not the issue im worried about right now. That I can fix with screen resolution. But I really hate this discolored screen. There's no way I can enjoy the games I will play using my new video card. I know my video card is compatible with my computer. Maybe not my monitor? Also, a friend of mine said it could be that its not getting enough power from the video card. So he said to make sure everything is plugged in all the way. Which it is. So I am SO confused. Please help! This was a $250.00 investment that i really do not want to go to waste.
Sometimes a video card upgrade also requires a bigger power supply. See what the minimum watts and +12V amps your new card requires and make sure your power supply meets it. Also download the latest drivers for your card and operating system and try them. I trust you uninstalled your old drivers and, if you had onboard graphics you disabled them in bios and installed the drivers for your OS? I suspect your power supply is too weak for your new card. If so, replace it quick because you can damage system components if you underpower your rig. Also make sure your connections are tight and the card is fully seated. Sometimes they appear to be in all the way when they aren't.
how can i use an external monitor as my primary monitor for my laptop?
I tried it once, connected a LCD monitor to my laptop, and it worked. the problem is, all i see on the external monitor is my wallpaper. No icons, task bars, mouse pointer, everything but my wallpaper. I tried changing the settings on Control Panel>Appearances and Themes>Display>Settings but the "Use this device as the primary monitor" check box is disabled. Do i need to install any drivers or install programs?
Oh, by the way, my laptop's video card is Nvidia GeForce 7200 Go.
Have you tried toggling your Function Keys (FN) for the Monitor display. To do this hold down the FN key on your keyboard and find the corresponding key on the key board. There will be a tiny picture of a couple of monitors on the key. On my IBM thinkpad it is F7. Generally there are 3 toggle settings:
1. Laptop monitor is on
2. Laptop Monitor is off and your external monitor is on
3. Both are on
I hope this helps.

Monitor is showing weird ripple/shadowy effects after video card upgrade?
i just upgraded my onboard video to a 3D Fuzion 128 MB Geforce 6200LE and now there are these strange ripply and shadowing effects that are showing up almost all over the display.. near text, icons etc. its usable but it almost looks like i *downgraded* to a cheaper video card as opposed to upgrading to the better one. my CRT monitor is about 5 or 6 years old and i plan on replacing that soon but the onboard video that came with my new Compaq Presario was starting to irk me since it was causing some eyestrain. i am using a 75 hz refresh rate which i believe was the highest i could go. hmm maybe i should just downgrade back to the onboard video, buy my flatscreen LCD and see if the original problem goes away. i do like the specs of this video card though over the onboard.
it's possible that you did downgrade ;) the GeForce 6200 is ancient.
but your problem can almost certainly be fixed by downloading the latest drivers. go to www.nvidia.com to download and install the latest one.

How to make a youtube video image smaller?
I know you can make a youtube video (that's playing) larger (full screen) by clicking on the icon in the lower right, but how do you make smaller?
What if you want to make it smaller so you can view it in the corner of your monitor, behind other applications?
If you want, when you embed it, you can choose the size, but you need a myspace or a blog or something. On youtube, you click the embed options. (the little sun icon)
Baby monitors are an extra set of ears--and, in some cases, eyes--that allow you to keep tabs on your sleeping baby. There are two basic types: audio and video/audio. Both operate within a selected radio frequency band to send sound from the baby's room to a receiver. Each monitor consists of a transmitter (child unit) and one or more receivers (parent units). Video/audio monitors have a small wall-mounted or tabletop camera to transmit images to a video monitor.
A baby monitor's challenge is to transmit recognizable sound (and/or images) over a distance with minimal interference--static, buzzing, or irritating noise--from other electronic products and transmitters, including cordless phones that share the same frequency bands, cellular phones, appliances, and even fluorescent lights. Interference can also be hearing someone else's conversation, which makes it difficult, if not impossible, to decipher the sounds coming from your monitor. Interference can also mean fuzzy reception in video monitors. Overall, interference is probably the biggest complaint parents have about baby monitors.
A Few SHOPPING SECRETS Courtesy of Consumer Reports:
Consider your home and lifestyle. You may appreciate a monitor with both sound and lights, so you can see your baby's cries. The louder he cries, the more lights light up. If you'll be taking business calls during naptime, for example, it can be helpful to turn the sound down low and rely on the lights. A video monitor can serve the same purpose, though we believe an audio monitor with lights can suffice. Similarly, if you live in a large house, you may want a monitor with two receivers rather than just one. In general, look for...
