Im just wondering if high schools get large discounts on video cameras and lights and stuff.. I'm wondering because I know teachers get huge discounts on 1000$ programs and things like it..

Definitely! They are buying huge quantities of equipment. Many do have money set aside for these types of items or they write grants to provide the money as well. You buy a large quantity of anything and you are bound to get a discount.

I'm looking at a canon or a Sony, more towards Sony because I have their software. Where is a good site that's not a scam that I can get a camera? I'm looking at HD HDD. A Sony SR-7 or SR-11. something that at best buy costs $900-$1000, but looking to pay about $800 or less.

If you plan to use the camcorder in a loud noise environment (bands with or without amplifiers, airplane, boat or car motors, loud crowds, etc.) or over about 9,700 feet, a hard drive based camcorder is not a good idea. They have vibration issues - to protect the hard drive platters, the heads will park. And the heads have problems working in a thin atmosphere. The two HD HDD camcorders you listed save their files to AVCHD format. Does your existing software handle that? Only the current version of Sony Vegas can - older versions cannot.

MiniDV tape and flash memory camcorders do not have the vibration and altitude issues HDD cams suffer from. HDD and flash memory camcorders use the same highly compressed file formats (MPEG2 and AVCHD) which result in reduced video quality - not as bad as DVD based camcorders - but not as good as miniDV tape based camcorder video.

I like messing with videos, but I also like video games. Something the 360 comes to my head, but it reliability is an issue for me, even if it is fixed for free.

I am thinking about buying the video camera or the PS3. I work in a place where I get a 10% discount, which will bring the 40GB ps3 to 381 dollars. It gonna cost me less that a 360 premium will cost to you. I have the same discount with the cameras.

I dont care so much about having a lot of games. NBA 2k8 is my favorite ps3 game, so it will be ok for me to have that only that game for 3 months or more.


What do you recommend?

Yeah, I am leaning to the ps3. Or the camera. I dont see xbox 360 as an option now.

Its between the PS3 and Video Camera.
I would say the video camera because its can guide you to a career in directing,but the game could bring you to the video game pros's.
I would suggest you do what you really want to do.

I recommend the PS3.

I want to know if you can get sony vegas free with a sony camcorder. Like you get it with the camera or anything along those lines.

I don't think so, though it's got to be worth haggling if you're buying them from the same shop. Sony's a big company - there isn't much of a connection between the different groups.

B&H have Vegas 6 for $99, but it doesn't include the DVD authoring app. Vegas 7 has improved High Def editing, which might be an issue, too. You could buy the discounted V6 and then get the upgrades from Sony - it's cheaper that way.

Another possibility would be to get a cheap copy of Vegas Movie Studio and go through the upgrade route.

One that takes nice pictures with indoor lighting AND outdoor lighting

I know some have the LCD screen that folds out [Like a Video Camera] and flips so you can see yourself if doing a self picture__thats would be nice

And this is for someone majoring in Design and Visual Communictions [Mostly Concentrated in Digital Art; Photoshop]

There might also be a Student Discount; But cn you reccomend anything within a $300ish price range

Photographers use fully adjustable cameras ... that rules out any P&S camera.

That leaves 35 mm SLR's or DSLR's

You can find good 35 mm Nikon and Canon SLR's with a standard lens on craigslist in a city near you for under $150.

The least expensive DSLR at this time is the D40 with lens sold on Amazon for under $450.

Forget about pixel count for determining the best camera ... it is the last consideration when it comes to picking a digital camera
