Is it something that you plug your guitar into and it records it onto the hard drive? AND can you plug an old video camera into it to save videos onto your computer?

Tv card would help to record videos from old video camera
You can use your sound card to plug the guitar into it but some tv card have audio in and audio out.

I'm a pianist and i want to record videos to put online. Do i have to get something like a digital video recorder ($$$$) or can i use something like a webcam and still get decent sound quality? any product recommendations are appreciated! thank you!

sound over a cam will sound terrible cuz it emplys 8 bit sampling only .Using a camcorder with a good plugged in mic would be great .

Currently most digital cameras with video recording do so at VGA resolution, which is 640x480. HD resolution is 1280×720 or 1920×1080.
Uhm101, I'll agree that while they don't do everything well... they give you the flexibility to take both video and still images. For some people this convenience is great especially when traveling and you don't want to carry lots of equipment around. Just look at a Canon A720 camera. It takes good photos... and gives you okay videos when you want.

Never I hope. Multifunction devices do all things in a mediocre fashion.

Could someone tell me whether there is a digital camera that takes great pictures and has a video recording feature with optical zoom? I am aware that the video recording on a digital camera is not as good as a camcorder. I just want a 2 in 1 so that I can take pictures and short video clips. I am torn between Canon SD780is, Canon SD880is, and I think some Panasonic DMC's have the feature. Any additional ideas would be helpful.

I have the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 and you can zoom while recording and it takes great pictures. It records HD videos.
I would recommend it.

I'm ready to buy a digital camera but I would like to get an opinion from the masses.

Heres the scenario...I ride a sport bike and I plan on mounting a digital/video camera to my bike while I ride. The video length needs to be longer than just 30 seconds. I also want good quality picture capabilities as well. I'm hoping to spend no more than $275.

Any suggestions?

If you buy a digital camera that also shoots 'video'...then make sure it has a resolution of at least 640X480 at 30fps...and also records audio.
Canon is a very good brand that takes high quality 'video'.
The newer ones can record 1GB at a time (about 8 minutes)...and others have no limitations except for the memory card you are using (up to 4 GB).
Obviously digicams can not compete with dedicated video cameras (handycams) for video quality...so keep that in mind.
Frankly, I do not know how a digicam will handle the 'rough treatment' while connected to a sport bike, but good luck anyway.
