How to transfer files from digital/video camera to a harddrive without using a computer?
I have a digital camera (Canon SD750) and a hard drive based video camera (Canon Vixia HF10). I would like to know if there's a way to transfer files from these devices to a portable harddrive. I havent purchased a portable harddrive yet and would like to get some advice on the best harddrive that would help me accomplish this task. Mac user here.
Your Canon SD750 and Canon Vixia HF10 use SD memory cards. The easy solution is too look at one of the portable hard drives that specialize in backup of Flash memory cards. Nearly all of them also have a USB interface that will allow to connect them to most recent Mac computers.
I would suggest the Hyperdrive family of products, because they are very fast, they go soft on electrical power and they are cheap (because most of them do not include a photo display).
Several other products exist with a good display like the Epson line (Look at the Epson P-2000 for example).

Does anyone have the little tikes digital video camera? How do you like it?
I am looking at the Little Tykes digital video camera for my 3 year old for Christmas, but i can't find any reviews for it. Does anyone have it? How does it work? How long can it record video. Doe the batteries run out every 5 minutes? I am also looking at the v-tech digital camera which records 5 minutes of video. Which one is better?
Go to Amazon.com and type 'Little Tikes digital camera " in the search.
It will show you that it's not very well rated by people who bought it.
I buy lots off Amazon because of free shipping over $25 and the reviews you can get from people who have bought the item before.

Which digital camera is best for recording video?
I'm ready to buy a digital camera but I would like to get an opinion from the masses.
Heres the scenario...I ride a sport bike and I plan on mounting a digital/video camera to my bike while I ride. The video length needs to be longer than just 30 seconds. I also want good quality picture capabilities as well. I'm hoping to spend no more than $275.
Any suggestions?
If you buy a digital camera that also shoots 'video'...then make sure it has a resolution of at least 640X480 at 30fps...and also records audio.
Canon is a very good brand that takes high quality 'video'.
The newer ones can record 1GB at a time (about 8 minutes)...and others have no limitations except for the memory card you are using (up to 4 GB).
Obviously digicams can not compete with dedicated video cameras (handycams) for video quality...so keep that in mind.
Frankly, I do not know how a digicam will handle the 'rough treatment' while connected to a sport bike, but good luck anyway.

What is the best light I can use to video indoors with a digital camera?
I am going to video several people sitting in a chair indoors with a digital video camera. What type light would I need and would a soft light or fluorescent light bulb work? What watt would I need? Should the light be placed above or below the camera?
Check if your camera has a white balance function. This adjusts the camera for different lighting conditions. If it does, you can use just about anything as long as you set the camera correctly. If not, go with something that looks natural on the camera. Incandesant tends to look yellow, and florescent sometimes looks blueish, so experiment and see what looks best. If you have several lights, place them on both sides of the camera and above and below to light them from all sides. If you just have one light, place it at camera level shining on the subjects at an angle. If you have two lights, put one on each side at camera level shining on the subjects at an angle.

Is there a digital video camera that takes pictures as well? Can anyone recommend a good (inexpensive) brand?
This may be a dumb question but I know very little about camcorders. I basically would like to make videos as well as take digital pics. I have a hard time understanding the descriptions when shopping for video cameras and I can't figure out if it can take pix as well. Do most camcorder take digital photos or would you have to buy the digital camera and video camera seperately??
I have a Panasonic DMC-FX07. It does both. you can adjust the quality. On it's low setting recordings are ready for youtube. On high it's good for TV. Most digital cameras you will find on the shelf will do it now. I love being able to have a camera and recorder in one device that fits in my pocket. It's going for about $180 now.
If you get one make sure it has it's own built in rechargable battery. that helps a lot.
If you go to a store look at the cameras in the middle of the shelf. not the cheapest and not the most expensive either. I'm sure you will find something in the mid range level that is just right.

How can I transfer something I recorded onto a vhs tape to my digital video camera?
Someone used her video camera to record a performance for me. Her camera is old, so I couldn't put it directly from her camera to my computer, so I put it onto a vhs tape. Now my problem is trying to get it to my computer. I thought there was a way I could put it onto my (new) digital camera, then onto my computer. But for some reason it just isn't working out for me. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure if it makes any difference, but it is a mini dv camera.
Most video cameras come with video in ports. There should be a wire that splits into red (audio left), white (audio right) and yellow (video). Some have S-video input, this looks like a PS mouse connection.
Play the VHS tape on a VHS player.
Plug the 3 wires into the AUDIO OUT (L,R) and VIDEO OUT connections of the VHS player.
You should see the video appear on the digital camcorder. If not, there should be some mode setting.
Press record.
