I am planning to buy one CCTV or Spy Cqmera and I wish to know how it could be burgled and which ways. So that I can improve on its maintenance. Can somebody tell me how.

Well, I am kind of interested in possibly getting a cctv spy camera such as the one on this ebay auction http://cgi.ebay.com/Wireless-Color-Pinhole-spy-Security-Camera-CCTV-system_W0QQitemZ250118499692QQihZ015QQcategoryZ14957QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem.
However I don't really know much about them except for the fact that theyre small and wireless. What else should I learn about them? How does the wireless work? Does it need like an internet adapter? If you could answer any of these I would really appreciate it, thanks

The Spy camera (like the ones on Ebay) is easy to set up and usually comes with everything you need. (the ebay page didnt work for me so cannot see what you trying to buy)

The Spy camera itself will be a small camera with a built in transmitter and possibly a few connections to help connect directly with a cable or battery.

It transmitts the signal using the 2.4Ghz or 1.3Ghz radio frequency. There are only 4 channels on this frequency so you are limited to this number of cameras. If you are already using a 2.4Ghz wireless device (or your neighbour), then consider 1 channel used for each device you have. (This is not the same as 2.4Ghz WiFi for computers)

In the package you will recieve a wireless reciever that collects the signal and has some outputs to connect a cable to your TV or recorder. The only reason you may need an adaptor is to convert this cable if you cannot connect it to your recording/display device. Maplins (UK) or Circuit City (US) has these adaptors, or find them on EBAY.

WORD OF CAUTION
I represent a CCTV company and have bought these fairly cheap (& more expensive) wireless cameras. The ones I tried were cheap quality, did not send the video over a great distance and image quality was poor. In addition to this, most of the cameras failed within a couple of weeks. If you do buy one of these cameras, DO NOT expect the camera to send the signal over a great distance.

As a result, I will never sell a normal wireless camera to a client, only professional transmitters or IP cameras which are very expensive.

Hope this info helps, by all means I could have been unlucky with my purchases and my experience does not reflect that of every wireless camera available on the market.

ok, i ask this because recently my mothers car passenger window was smashed, the strip that runs along the side of my car (across both doors) was 'ripped off' , and just recently - my front bumper was completely written off, it appears as if it was smashed and/or pulled out of place with force although one could only speculate as to the circumstances by which this may have happened.

My area has a long and rich history of car crime I suppose, most notably car stereo systems being thieved (resulting in a window being smashed to access it).

With me, i've had it all - i've had indicator lights removed with precision, i've had hub-caps (rim discs for the wheels) being removed and stolen, windows smashed, deliberate acts of vandalism along the lines of 'scratches, dents etc' .

It really does a number on ones peace of mind, its gotten to the point of which im really fed up with this. I reported this incident involving my car bumper to the police, the cctv idea was suggested by an
extremely polite and professionaly adept young officer on duty that day.

The idea had come to me before, but now it seems like its the only thing I can do to combat these criminal elements.

I figure, if I can capture footage of these ppl doing these things, then I can broadcast it live on any number of online video sharing websites, better yet - submit this footage to the local council or even better - develop a website dedicated to car crime in my town and maybe start up a mini business that sells surveillence cameras to catch scum like these ppl.

if you do the crime, you should also have the priviledge and honour of having all the exposure in the world for your antics - thus my idea being, showing the masses out there what you get up to outside ppls homes in the early hours of the morning.

Some idea as to the appearance, height, build etc of these criminals would be nice - it would give me a bit of peace of mind just knowing.

Do you think I ought to invest in this ?

Yes, peace of mind is a worthwhile cause.~

honestly mate i cant tell you how many investigations ive done where the main evidence is cctv.
Because a person is fallible and can suffer perceptual distortion when they give a statement.
A camera is 100% accurate, the only thing that differs is a persons perception of the image (especially if it is alittle blurry or from a distance).

Ive been in the police a fair few years, and the greatest aid to my job is the how prolific cctv is within town centres.

It honestly does from my own exprience asisst thei nvestigation of major crimes as well as the few sad case shoplifters.

any ideas which one i should go for and why?

There are wireless IP cammeras made by several vendors.

I suggest you configure them with a static LAN IP and also provide the pc to which you wish to send the pictures to with a static LAN IP.

There are several good brands out there; I really cannot recommend one over another. Stick with a major brand and you are probably going to be satisfied.

I want to instal one to cover the front door of my terraced house, there is no path as door situated directly on pavement. I have a white upvc door with a small glass window, no spy hole, one window downstairs and two upstairs at front. I dont want the camera visible. Them wall lamps with built in cctv are no good, it would be too obvious as a lamppost right outside. Suggestions?

This sounds strange but at a client at upscale town in northern VA used an antique bird house which was on a post next to the house to disquise his. most of us didn't know it was there until he pointed it out. the post was iron and the wiring hung inside the pipe the opening was angle in a way that the lense was where the opening was and it was fixed right at the door entrance to allow for clear view of the entryway.
