when I scan using the yahoo! anti-spy it routinely finds the Trojan world anti-spy virus. I remove per it's recommendations but it keeps coming back, my other anti-virus software never seems to find it.

I just bought a expensive desktop,it comes with Norton trial for 60 days.I have an AVG disc with license for one year that came from my old PC.I'm thinking of uninstalling Norton,then install AVG.I have not yet decided if I should get another program for altogether.Any suggestions?

Don't use AVG its poor at detecting viruses. I would recommend free PC Tools antivirus and Spybot or windows defender.

Yahoo Norton anti-spy was working 2 weeks ago but now I cannot install updated definitions. The definitions appear to download but won't install. The machine sits there for hours with pages transferring (from the world symbol to the computer) but nothing happens. I tried uninstalling, then reinstalling (several times) but without sucess. My last definition update was then reset to 8/5/06. I tried turning off Norton anti-virus and SP2 firewall without sucess. I do not have any other blocking software. Virus scans and another parties spy ware check is clean. Active X contols are on and all pop-up blockers are off. Any suggestions?

The latest version of the toolbar no longer has the Norton Security button. I reported the problem to Y! Customer Care and got the response that the Norton deal with Yahoo! had expired. Bottom line: There is nothing wrong with your system. Norton Spyware Scanner is no longer supported.
However, I am aware of Norton Security software available with the Google pack:

I haven't try that version, but you could. I would remove Norton (NSS) from add or remove programs before installing the above. Good luck.

When i do it keeps coming back. I use Yahoo Anti-Spy program to find and remove it. The next time it's on there again and recommended for removal.

when i play warcraft every 3 secs the scream frezis but goes back and keeps going all the time i play. is it my computer(why) or my internet (i got att 2701HG-B) or is it something else i got virus protector &anti spy& pop blocker ON .but i think something with my computer maybe switch something off or on.
but i got the 10 trial for warcraft is it that . i got that repair thing for warcraft but nothing is wrong with warcraft.
could someone help & tell me what to do or how?

check the other programs taht are running , turn off programs (like msn) off if ur not using them . also check ur ping it should be green/yellow (yellow for me cos my internet sucks) turn off bandwidth stealing programs

so just turn off programs ur not using . check ur ping and turn off any bandwidth stealing programs like limewire ares bitlord bittorrent ect.

Hi there,

Some of the most recommended programs on here always seem to be AVG or Avast - although this is likely to be because they are free? Looking at current protection ratings, AVG scores a lowly 90% protection against all known viruses, whilst Avast comes in at 92%. This means they are letting through one in every ten viruses - pretty shocking.

The same goes for Spybot and Adaware. In fact if you had AVG, Spybot and Adaware installed, you would surprisingly only be protected from circa 60% of all known malware (viruses, adware, spyware, trojans, etc).

Norton and McAfee are the "best known" security products, which are currently protecting against something like 98.3% and 97% of all known viruses - a much better score. However, both of these are known for being very heavy programs which can tend to slow down certain machines. If you are thinking of installing either of these I would definitely recommend you download their free trial to check it does not affect your machine in this way prior to opening your wallet.

If you would be interested in other Security products that are better than all of these, you should try either Prevx1, Kaspersky or F-Secure who all score over a 99% protection rating. Out of these three my recommendation would be Prevx1, as this is the quickest at protecting against new outbreaks of malware.
