Without going into too much detail, my co-workers and I have reason to believe our employer put a microphone in the employee bathroom/locker room, presumably to monitor us because they never go in there and/or to catch us breaking rules, etc. I know it's illegal to have a camera in a bathroom, but could someone tell me if eavesdropping on employees in the bathroom in a concealed fashion is legal?
It is illegal to record someone without their knowledge or permission.
Banks and other businesses have security cameras, but they cannot record what is being said. I believe having cameras in the bathroom is illegal as well...as you mentioned.
If you have a reason to believe there are microphones installed, I would advise going to a lawyer to see what legal actions should be taken.

Simple.....It only takes an FM radio and some noise.
Go into a room, make the consistent noise. While you are at it dial the FM radio through the stations. When you find the noise on a station it is highly likely that the mike is in the room you are in.

For instance say your computer was bugged or car for that matter. Would the bug be in a black area to conceal the microphone or would they run the wire along a panel and it be powered through a wire to the car battery? Also is it possible that someone could put a camera bahind a computer monitor after it has been bought. Is their a way to detect these things other than of course your intuition or whatnot. If anyone has a website that has picture of such devices or diagrams that would be helpful.
If by bug, you mean something that specifically picks up audio, then the microphone must be realtively close to the audio.
For a car, the audio would be inside the vehicle, so the microphone must also be inside. It could be put anywhere in the vehicle, but to be able to be used constantly, it must be attached to a power source, so under the dash, or under a seat. Transmission from inside a vehicle has limited distance, so it must use an external antenna. If we are talking federal here, the car radio itself would be the device they would use. They would simply replace it with one that transmitted the audio.
Most car transmitters are not bugs, as they do not send audio. They either send the position via GPS, or are tracking transmitters. GPS trackers will have a small square patch antenna, that must have a clear view of the sky. They can be fitted under the dash, as long as it's looking through plastic or glass. Metal, even aluminum foil, stops the GPS portion of the tracker from getting a position. The other half of the GPS tracker is the data transmitter. Data must be transmitted to someone in order to track where you are. This is usually cell phone frequencies, and the antenna can be either external to the box, of attached to it. There are GPS logger to that simply track where you were, and are manually downloaded. Tracking transmitters send out small burst of signal every so often (like animal tracker). These are the most difficult to find. They do not need to be hooked up the the vehicle power, and will last for months on a button cells. You must track these manually, meaning there has to be someone within a short distance (a mile or 2) with an antenna to track you.
The only real way to test for any these, is to bring the vehicle into and RF shielded room and test the with a spectrum analyzer.
As for a computer monitor, no you can't put a camera behind the tube in your display. A camera will be mounted on the side, looking through a small hole. There could also be a small, dark window with no apparent use. There must be a connection for the camera, or it must transmit. Look for the extra connections, and have the monitor swept by a professional when in use.
The computer is another story. It can easily be bugged, and you wouldn't even know it. The data can be sent out digitally through the comm line, along with all the other data. I have NOT heard of this, but it is technically possible.
