I'm looking for an 8 Channel Web Ready DVR system for 8 security cameras I may purchase. I'd like it to be web ready, meaning able to be accessed over the internet. If it is compatible with a Mac computer (an iMac) that would be great too. Altogether I'm looking for something under 400 dollars. Thanks in advance.

Best Buy has some that are compatible with the Mac, but they are highly more money then $400.
I think it's around $700 to $ 2000.
Circut City might have one not related to Mac but a smaller price.
eBay might have a larger variety for a range of prices.

I have a DVR card with 8 channels but the software I got crashes on me all the time,
I've tried it on a few computers and it just doesnt seem to work, I know its not the card or the cameras because i've tested those else where and they worked. Anyone have any recommendations for software I can purchase that will work or maybe free software?

I want to buy a computer and put on a 400-fps 8-channel DVR card on it and record from security cameras 24/7 and erase data after every 2 weeks.I need advice about the PC.My budget is around 440 $ for the computer.I have bought everything else.What should i get Intel or AMD.What is better AMD or Intel.
I am not going to make it myslef i am goign to buy it preconfigured because it is more reliable.

You should get Intel Quad Core from Ebay.

I just upgraded from a Series 2 Tivo, to the new HD Tivo unit for $299.
My problem is that I cannot get the channel setup to show any of the stations higher than channel 115. Also from the 80s on, they list like 88-01 to 88-20 or so, which I thought was strange. I do not recall any of that on the Series 2.

When the TIvo setup asks for my cable service, it only gives me the options of basic cable or extended basic cable. (My Bresnan Cable bill lists my service as Digital Cable Classic Plus.) I have tried to use the extended basic option, (going to the advanced setup screen, I believe), and then when it asks for Premium stations, I say yes, and add EncoreR, but on the channel lineup, it only goes to channel 70 (QVC), and then all the other listings are the ones like 88-012 with an * after then and no information. They have only gone up to Channel 115.

I do not have my CableCard yet, it is supposed to be delivered on Tuesday. I thought this might be my trouble, but at one time (I have done the setup about 8 times now) I was able to get standard chanels up to 48 (Sci-Fi) at least.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I checked as mentioned, but the setting was already at "All channels I receive", not "Favorites", so unfortunately, that is not the problem either. I appreciate the suggestion, though!

You have two lists to choose from:
1. all channels
2. favorites.


You have not picked your favorite channels yet and the guide may be set by default to favorites.
To fix it do the following.



This should be in your GUIDE MENU
then press ENTER to get to the GUIDE OPTIONS.
now change your channels setting from FAVORITE---- TO --ALL YOU RECIEVE.

Now since it is new, you will have to go manually and pick your favorites so all of the channels dont show on the guide.

Okay, it's a quick question. I am setting up a 4 channel CCTV camera setup in my business. It's a samsung 4 camera kit with the little TV to view them on. It also has web broadcasting. I recently bought a Samsung 4 channel DVR to go with it. I've got a problem though. I must use the inputs from the cameras to go directly to the DVR in order to record 4 channels at full resolution. When i hook up the TV as an output, I lose control of the web broadcasting. I'd like to split the video signal to both the tv and the DVR. The cable is like a phone cable but it has 6 wires. It's in between a phone and cat 5 connector in size. It is also the only wire going to the cameras so it carries power and a signal through these wires. Where can I buy a splitter and two additional wires to go to each unit and what products should i use. I've tried using an 8 pin splitter with two 6 pin wires that it can "fit" into but I lose the signal. My local electronic stores don't have 6pin splitters.

Hi,

The connector you have is a RJ11 connector. I will explain how you can do this assuming your DVR has BNC (round metal) connectors. We will split the cable using special adaptors. (see bottom for place to buy)

1) An adaptor will convert the RJ11 plug into a BNC & power lead. Connect the BNC connector to the DVR (if it has loopthough, 2nd set of BNC connectors), or to a video splitter (4in, 8 out)

This will create a normal connection that can be distributed. The power lead can be connected directly to a PSU, or back into the samsung tv


2) Using a loopthrough, or the splitter, you have connected one video source to the DVR, now we will send another source to the TV. Another adaptor will take the video feed from the loopthough on DVR or splitter by BNC, & convert back to RJ11 plug. You can connect the power lead from first adpator directly to this adaptor.

3) You will need to add some short RJ11 to RJ11 leads as you will end up with the same connection to fit the tv including video & power (just like it was directly connected, we have just taken a copy of video off)

A loopthtough on the DVR or splitter is important to maintaing the video signal level.


You can buy all these parts from your local electrical store. Try www.cpc.co.uk and look up order codes:

sr06766 for 1st adaptor
sr06768 for 2nd adaptor

sr05971 RJ11 extenstion leads
sr06803 4in 8out distributor (the DVR should have a 2nd set of video outputs though, check this first so you dont need this)

See the above products, you will get an idea of what you will need.
