How much would you pay for a GPS Tracking unit for your child?
I am for tracking units, especially children. These units can be used for vehicles, the elderly, valuable equipment, kids, etc. Do you think $249.00 is too much to pay? Would you pay $249.00? Unit can do much more than track but keep tabs incase the child wanders a certain distance from home and instant text message sent to cell phone. I am thinking of selling these units and wanted to see what others thought of the price, etc. Thank you in advance for your thoughts!
I think $249 is reasonable. I've seen the GPS watches before and thought they were ingenious...those go for about $250. I've also seen other devices that go for almost $500..
Nextel offers a really cool GPS tracking system that you can set up to send you a text message to let you know when they get to school..etc..I personally use this service.
So.. yes, I would pay $249 I think my loved ones are worth it..and it's a competitive price

GEMINI GPS tracking phone/child safety device?
AFter waiting weeks for mine to arrive and paying almost $300, I can't get GEMINI (who sells gps tracking phones through many sites, like childsafetytech.com) to even call me back about either replacing the broken phone delivered to me, or giving me a refund.
They said they have never "heard" of the product arriving broken to a customer and will have to "look into it" before they tell me anything: meanwhile I am out almost $300 and I got this for my youngest daughter. SInce children are being abducted, this was a peace of mind for us.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get this company's LACK of support out to other parents who are getting suckered?
Contact the Better Business Bureau, Consumer Affairs and if you paid with a credit card you could call your credit card company and have them reverse/dispute the charge.

i guess it depends on your kids opinion about it. i personally wouldn't want my parents to do that to me, not that i have anything to hide, but if your kid is freaked out about it then i wouldn't force it on them

almost all cell phones are equipped with GPS contact your carrier and see what phones that they have that have these capabilities included... you may need to activate something within the phone itself...

LBS provider Apisphere is launching today its first consumer, hardware product, geomate.jr, a low cost ($69.95), single purpose GPS unit dedicated to geocaching.
The goal of this new product is to offer a geocaching experience out of the box and is particularly targeting kids. Geomate.jr has 250,000 geocaches preloaded, covering the entire USA. The device has a black and white screen with indication of the direction of the nearest geocache and its distance. Menus have been kept to a minimum to make it simple to operate.
Running on a SiRF StarIII chipset with 2 AA batteries, this device has an estimated 12 hours battery life. Moving forward Apisphere will sell a cable and software ($24.95) in order to maintain an up to date database or go geocaching out of the United States.
While geocaching is becoming more mainstream there was so far not such simple way to go geocaching. Warren Hewerdine, director of marketing at Apisphere believes that his first customers will be “the existing geocachers buying the product for their friends and relatives in order to introduce other people to the activity”. The second layer of customers are likely to be the existing outdoor community that could know about the activity but do not practice today.
