I am looking for an implantable GPS device I can put inside of my child?
I am looking for an implantable GPS device I can put inside of my child.
What is a good product? Where can I get one? How much does it cost?
I am finding a lot of articles on the net about a product like this, but im not finding anything about a specific product that can be purchased.
I don't think it will be very safe to implant a whole GPS transmitter in your body, especially a kid. Plus, changing the battery, will be a big problem.
You probably read about RFID tags. Those are used now to ID animals, in case they are lost, but they can't transmit information on where they are. Those are safe and a few brave adults implant them as well.

An electronic device GPS type child locator?
Hi, first of all, I know our children aren't dogs or cats, and I don't like the sound of it either. I dont even agree with those child leashes things that some people use. But here is the thing, I have been having these nightmares in which someone kidnaps my baby and I can't find her. I know many parents probably have had this nightmare, its a common fear. But I am going on holiday soon, internationally to visit my parents, and I am going alone because my husband has work. And I don't know, I guess I'm just scared that my fears will be realised, because I'm from a small town where you could leave your doors open and even if someone did take something or commited a crime, you'd know exactly who is was the next day. And abduction is so low where I live, you just don't hear about it.
Bla bla , anyway long story short, I was wondering if there existed like a small gps tag or something that I could attach to a baby bracelet or anklet or something, because my girl is 20 months and she runs, and she is friendly and trusting and is so full of energy, and being pregnant, sometimes I can't keep up with her. I'm just nervous.
Anyone heard of a product like this?
James K- 10 bucks you dont have kids, 10 bucks you are the type of guy who never will and hate the sight of them, and 10 bucks you have never read that book and have to google it to find out who actually wrote it. You probably think it was written in 1984, and you might even come back at me with an edit from...let me guess....wikipedia? loser.
and as for the first answer, one day, if your kids ever goes missing, or gets abducted or runs away, I'm sure that pain will be felt right under your skin. I'm not talking barcoded tattoos, toddlers can't tell people their address or that some stranger is not their mummy or Daddy, or find a police station. You are all a bunch of losers.

GEMINI GPS tracking phone/child safety device?
AFter waiting weeks for mine to arrive and paying almost $300, I can't get GEMINI (who sells gps tracking phones through many sites, like childsafetytech.com) to even call me back about either replacing the broken phone delivered to me, or giving me a refund.
They said they have never "heard" of the product arriving broken to a customer and will have to "look into it" before they tell me anything: meanwhile I am out almost $300 and I got this for my youngest daughter. SInce children are being abducted, this was a peace of mind for us.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get this company's LACK of support out to other parents who are getting suckered?
Contact the Better Business Bureau, Consumer Affairs and if you paid with a credit card you could call your credit card company and have them reverse/dispute the charge.

Where can I find a company to implant a child locator device?
I am looking into finding a company that can implant a GPS device to safeguard against the unimaginable happening. I am not looking for a debate on the ethics of this. God forbid something happens I would want to make sure I did everything in my power to save my child. And for those of you who think it could never happen remember that children are abducted from inside their homes, at school, the bus stop-- everywhere.
If you know of a company that can offer me this protection it would be greatly appreciated.
implanting something into your child will not protect them from all the awful things that could happen in life.
sadly, we can't shield them from all the bad in the world. sure, we can shield them from a lot, and can educate them on how to prevent some of the bad things, but we can't be everywhere all the time.
you have to be somewhat trusting in this world today, as hard as it sounds, you have to do it.
if you allow this obsession to rule your life, you are going to waste your whole life, as well as your child's young years trying to protect them instead of ENJOYING it.

Would it be ethical to implant a GPS tracking device into your child?
If it's a question of ethics then it depends on the age of the child. If we're taking about a 3 year old runner then I don't think it would be unethical. If we're talking about a 16 year old...you just have to trust them, they deserve trust, respect nad some degree of privacy. Plus, if you can track your child with it who is to say someone else couldn't hack into it and track them. It's one if those things that seems like a good idea but could back fire.
Low cost, child friendly geocaching GPS get launched
LBS provider Apisphere is launching today its first consumer, hardware product, geomate.jr, a low cost ($69.95), single purpose GPS unit dedicated to geocaching.
The goal of this new product is to offer a geocaching experience out of the box and is particularly targeting kids. Geomate.jr has 250,000 geocaches preloaded, covering the entire USA. The device has a black and white screen with indication of the direction of the nearest geocache and its distance. Menus have been kept to a minimum to make it simple to operate.
Running on a SiRF StarIII chipset with 2 AA batteries, this device has an estimated 12 hours battery life. Moving forward Apisphere will sell a cable and software ($24.95) in order to maintain an up to date database or go geocaching out of the United States.
While geocaching is becoming more mainstream there was so far not such simple way to go geocaching. Warren Hewerdine, director of marketing at Apisphere believes that his first customers will be “the existing geocachers buying the product for their friends and relatives in order to introduce other people to the activity”. The second layer of customers are likely to be the existing outdoor community that could know about the activity but do not practice today.
In terms of distribution Apisphere has already signed an agreement with outdoor chain REI (107...
